We have a new dramatic play centre for Aistear – the hibernation shop!
Children will take on the roles of shopkeeper, customer, manager and run their shop!
Next week we will move on to the /sh/ blend and we will be revising 2D shapes in Maths. We will also be doing more activities based on the theme of Autumn 🍂
All for now!
We have tiny pumpkins beginning to appear on our plants! Will keep a close eye on them over the coming weeks. 🎃
Our pumpkins have been coming on well over the summer months. I’ve seen lots of flowers but no sign of fruit yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
On the other hand, there was a brilliant surprise waiting in our school garden:
A full sized pumpkin! I’m still hopeful for our crop but it’s great to see our award winning school garden flourishing.
Our pumpkins are now planted outside and are being carefully watched for any mildew or slugs. Fingers crossed we get some good weather for growing!
These fabric Clever Pots are brilliant but I’m still not sure how I’ll get them back to school at the end of August ☺️
Our pumpkin seedlings are looking healthy. We should have a good patch of homegrown pumpkins for Halloween 2017!
The pressure is on to make sure they survive the summer holidays!
Our cress plants have made great progress while the marigolds are taking a little more time. We have been having great debates about why our plants are bending towards the window so we have discussed the three things plants need – water, air and sunlight!
A reminder that Sports For All day will happen next Monday (as long as the weather stays dry) This means children should wear their tracksuit and bring an extra drink. Sun block is also a good idea as we will be outdoors for most of the day. The day starts with a parade in the big field opposite St. Kilian’s. After that there are a variety of races for the infants.
Parents are very welcome to come and cheer us on but please be mindful that this is a new experience for Junior Infants and it is important that the children stay with me at all times.
In the afternoon we will have a variety of activities in the school yard. For health and safety reasons parents can not attend this part of sports day. For infants that will be the entirety of their activities but there is a staff / parent tug of war later on in the day if any parents are interested!
All for now.
